How big (resolution) should my photos be?

If you are using a digital camera to take your photos, then your files are already in a useable digital format. When it comes to resolution, bigger truly is better. The higher the resolution, the better your images will look when they are enlarged in the AdventureScape. Most cameras have LOW, MEDIUM, and HIGH image resolution settings. Medium is okay, High is better.

What format should my files be?

We can manipulate just about any digital format, but JPEG and TIFF image formats are the most common and stable for manipulating (most digital cameras create JPEG files).

What if the pictures I want to use are not high resolution?

If your unopened (compressed) files are higher than 400 kb the images will be usable (small, but useable). We use special software to enlarge small or low res files. But it always better to send the highest quality image you can (within reason, if your compressed file is over 4 MB, the actual image size will be huge).

How is the layout for my AdventureScape determined?

Good question. We ask a few questions about your photos on the order form, specifically; Which image should be the focal point or main image? What made the adventure/event memorable for you (or the individual(s) in the photos)? There is also a place for you to add any other comments or instructions prior to submitting the form. You can simply tell us what “story” you would like the AdventureScape to tell.

Will I get to see a proof of my AdventureScape?

Yes. We’ll do a rough version of the layout, with the images placed on the page along with the background elements and a written description of what we intend to do with the design. You’ll get a general idea of what it will look like before we work our magic on the images.

What if I want to use prints?

First, if you still have your negatives, you can take them to most photo developing centers and they can scan them to a CD. You get much better quality than scanning the printed photograph on a flatbed scanner. The same photo developing centers can also scan in your prints (even most FedEx Kinko’s locations have self-serve machines that do this).

If you want us to scan in your photos, just indicate that in the message box on the upload page and you will receive an email with instructions on how to safely send your photos (there is a $5 per scanned photo charge). Your photos will be returned by registered mail.
